Middle earth as an hexmap
I was surprised I couldn't find a Middle-Earth hexmap. I guess this is like a "sacred monster" and turning itto hexes would be a blasphemy. So I did it, not a very detailed map, but the kind of one you could use in a vanilla od&d campaign. .

On one of the lesser known OSR blogs I once saw a Middle-earth hex map as theme background.
But I can't remember which. Sorry. (Part of my brain links this with lots of Brit OSR coverage, though.)
Maybe someone else has seen it as well?
The old SPI wargame "War of the Ring" had an excellent Middle-earth hex map. I took mine and had it laminated and it's my default go-to map for my LotR role playing. Also, the new RPG "The One Ring" has a hex-map of ME in it.

It looks to me as if the scale is around 30 miles per hex.
I must admit I didn't even calaculated the sacle,, doing it quickly for fun. I'd like to see a good pic of the map cited.

Marrant, ça me fait penser à la grille assez grossière du Monde du JdR "Ultima" (editeur : Lord British, version Exodus) sur Apple II (1983 je crois)...
Le territoire n'était pas si vaste même s'il tenait sur 4 floppy disks ce qui était une exploit à l'époque... Et malgré la description en case carrée, le territoire pouvait receler des trèsors d'ingéniosité.
It's funny the graphic icons are those used in Mystara's Gazetteers. ;)
My educated guess on scale would be about 45 miles to the hex based on the North/South size of Mordor compared to the Christopher Tolkien map.
I've been looking for a Middle-earth hex map. I only found this one by accident, after coming to look at your comments on B2.
Unfortunately, I'm try to find/make on at 24 miles to the hex. Better keep on looking I suppose...

I'm currently working on a huge version of middle earth. Around 600*400 hexes. There still missing a lot of cities, roads and bridges. It's based on ICE's Poster Map and the Cities found in the Third Age mod. Here's a preview:
